Sensible Reasons why Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church say no to sex before marriage - By Dr. Charlie O'Donnell FRCP FRCEM FFICM
Sensible Reasons why Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church say no to sex before marriage is a book addressing a true crisis of faith in the 21st century.
There are 1001 things more important in Christianity than sexual morality but the elephant in the room, for those believers who choose to look, is that this issue is one that sadly leads many to disengage from following Jesus Christ.
Even young people brought up in families whose religious beliefs strongly oppose sex before marriage often find it very difficult to put together any coherent reasons to support their belief. Most of the population is very much in favour of sex before marriage, and opposing this mind-set can feel as absurd as saying the world is flat!
What is more, the reasons proposed to young people in favour of sex before marriage from the world around them can sound very sensible. Things like “sleeping around may not be a good idea, but surely committed boyfriend–girlfriend relationships are ok?” or “If you really are in love, then surely making love is a good way to strengthen your relationship?” are very seductive arguments at first glance.
The text, in a non-judgmental and merciful format, shows how reason supports the teaching of Jesus against fornication (sex before marriage). It is written by a medical doctor, Dr Charlie O'Donnell, familiar with defending Christian teachings in an accessible manner. It gives hope to all regardless of where the individual is at in their intimate life.
Holding an Imprimatur from the Catholic Diocese of Brentwood, England the book was written to help those who want to struggle to be better and those who wish to assist others in that struggle. It is a pathway to real joy.
Given the nature of the subject matter and the fact that young people develop at different rates the author suggests that parents or guardians should be the judge about the suitability of the text for those under 18 years of age.
