Francis de Sales was born near Annecy in 1567, and became Bishop of Geneva when he was only thirty five. As a young priest he worked hard to win back the people of his native Chablais from Calvinism. He discovered a powerful new weapon of evangelisation: the pamphlet. Every week he wrote and distributed leaflets explaining the Catholic faith in simple and direct language. After four years Chablais returned to their ancient faith. This is an inspired guide to love God above all else, drawn from the saint’s own writings.
